UK-Jive List Manager August Jango & Tango Workshop Day!
UK-Jive

Date: July 22nd 2008

Yo!

Right now I'm in Sweden, at a huge Authentic Jazz and Swing dance camp, dancing my socks off and having a great time!  I'll be in Manchester start of August, Paris at the end of August, and Madrid for the start of September, studying more dancing, rehearsing and discovering more stuff to share with you all!   But if you want to catch me for any classes I'll be...

...running Tango and Jango workshops on the 16th of August, (read below)

...teaching at Southport in September  (www.jiveaddiction.com)

...and also, if you happen to be in Manchester I should be running a couple of classes there, start of August, and available for private lessons!

Return of the Dance Tip!

Practice your steps alone!  You will be amazed how becoming proficient in your individual movements can improve your dancing.  Delving into Lindy Hop in Sweden I find it incredible how much you can communicate as a leader through just a light hand to hand connection, providing your own body is moving with clarity and conviction.  And followers, in terms of connection this is just as important for you!  Obviously two dancers can do the same movements and make them look completely different.  This not only makes the dance more fun to do and watch, but can really affect the moves and movement quality without ever having to resort to sabotage, hostage taking or weapons of mass destruction.  I'll talk about this more at the workshop, but great leading really starts with great personal body movement, which allows you to actually forget about whether you are using your body or arms or toenails and just really dance.

I'll cover a couple of specific exercises that explore how to achieve this level of connection where both partners are really dancing and moving together, and not worrying about lead/follow mechanics at the workshop, so I hope you can make it!

Jango is a fusion of Tango and Jive. It is inspired by the freedom of modern-jive with the footwork and connection of tango. There are classes, workshops and a DVD available in the style, as well as hundreds of dancers around the country that have been inspired by this fusion. Events such as Funky Lush, the T-Jive and others play the kind of music ideal for this kind of dancing.
