Recent News LeRoc Champs:Jive,Salsa,WCS &Charity Glitter Ball Article by: LeRoc UK (05/07/2008) • Entry Form • LeRoc UK info • LeRoc UK web site The Winter Gardens Pavilion, Weston-super-Mare THE UK DANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008 Weston-super-Mare hosts the prestigious UK Dance Championships on Saturday 26th July, as hundreds of competitors from all four corners of the country complete for title of 2008 Leroc UK Open Dance Champions. The famous sunken Ballroom at the Winter Gardens Pavilion on Weston’s seafront is set to play host to the biggest and most spectacular event in the dance calendar as all the colour, energy and panache of Strictly Come Dancing and Strictly Dance Fever comes to town. Hundreds of dance enthusiasts are expected to descend on the Pavilion Ballroom, which featured in the 1993 film “The Remains of the Day” starring Sir Anthony Hopkins. The 2008 Leroc UK Open Dance Championships features Leroc, Salsa, West Coast Swing and Showcase categories, as well as 2 new categoris Youth 14- 21year olds & LeRoc Ba ck to Basics: using only beginner moves to make up the dance. There are 12 competition categories being held during the day at The Winter Gardens on Saturday 26th July, with a spectacular Glitter Ball held on the Saturday night, where people can relax after the perils of competition, don extravagant outfits and freestyle the night away. The championships are not just for those who have been dancing for years, but are open to everyone who dances a modern jive, including Leroc, Ceroc, West Coast Swing, Jazz Jive and Salsa. And with 12 dance categories available, the event caters for all. Following the phenomenal success of the BBC’s ‘Strictly Dance Fever’, interest in dancing is at an all time high. Amongst the array of judges in Weston-super-Mare will be Carol Hains, who made it through to the television stages of the competition. Sherif says: “Programmes such as ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and ‘Strictly Dance Fever’ have done absolute wonders for the profil e of dancing. “When the programme was being broadcast, the number of requests I received from people wanting private lessons shot up. It’s similar to Wimbledon fortnight – the whole of the country wants to play tennis.” “This is the fifth time we have run the event at the Winter Gardens. Last year’s event was stunning. The venue is simply spectacular and everyone had a really good time. With more people, it will be bigger and better.” Doors will open at 8.00pm on Friday for the pre-competition dance. On Saturday, doors open at 9.00am and the first competition will start at 11.00am. The competitions will continue throughout the day with Freestyle sessions in between. Then from 9.00pm until 1.00am Sunday, The Glitter Ball will see the finalists in action, the presentation of the prizes and an opportunity for all competitors to freestyle the night away. Entry to the whole weekend costs £30. For those people wishing to attend the Friday night only, en try costs £10, while Saturday entry from 9am to 1am is just £25, with ‘Glitter Ball only ticket £18. These costs do not include entry into the competitions. The event is open to all people over the age of 14. This made reference to a 3rd party individual as an expartner at LeRoc, but who never was a partner of this club & to enhance their promotion without asking, decided to use the good name of this club, who LeRoc has had no association since June 2006 & LeRoc wishes to remain devoid of association with the individual. We appreciate the compliment but ask that no future reference ever be made again. This is followed by the regular monthly freestyle at Askern on the 25th, which will have the Chocci Fountain as a treat for all the jivers, who usually attend from a wide area for this dance. The first one will be on Friday 12th September, with admission price just £4.00 if by ticket purchased from the venue on the n ormal Monday class night. More and more jivers are joining us on Monday nights which has all the top line instructors, Jatinder, Viv Bolton, Amanda etc. and is a great friendly place to dance.
